Our own flock of pure Shetland sheep are hand sheared, the fleece is then washed and space dyed in harmonious colourways. Once dry the fleece is colour blended using my drum carder in shades of heather, plum, pink, burnt orange and shades of blue before being fractal spun on my spinning wheel. I then weave the resulting yarn on a rigid heddle loom to create the finished  infinity scarf.

Out of stock

The entire process from sheep to scarf is conducted on my Shetland croft.

Inspiration

My flock of sheep have fantastic fleece and in a way I feel its honouring them to take their ‘cut offs’ and make something useful and beautiful. I’ve been knitting since I was a child, but its only since I began keeping sheep that my real adventures with fleece began. Now I dye, card, spin, weave, felt, crochet, oh and knit of course.

Creative Croft

I live in the northern most part of rural mainland Shetland on a croft where I tend native Shetland sheep, goats and chickens. The chickens are for their eggs, the goats are for their milk and the sheep are for their  lovely wool, which I process on the croft by hand. My husband hand shears, I wash, dye, spin and weave into colourful scarves, shawls and cowls. All our sheep are lovingly reared and known by name. I have a strong interest in metalwork, particularly copper and silver jewellery and I fashion pins/brooches for my scarves and shawls.  I love working with gemstones and have recently begun making resin beads for the pendants that I make in copper and silver wire.
