A square slate coaster, 10cm across, engraved with the face of a Highland cow looking right back at you – fringe, horns and all.
It is made by Johnny McMaster, the craftsman behind Barnweil in Waternish, in the Isle of Skye. Natural slate means every coaster has its own edge and shading, so no two are quite the same.
Slate is heat-resistant and sits steady on the table, so it works as well under a hot mug as it does as a small gift. Hard to go wrong with a hairy coo.
