Khadi paper is made from 100% cotton rags, with a wonderful feel and weight for watercolours, calligraphy, note taking, sketching.
This is one of a collection of books for sketching, notes, lists, reminders. Each book is individually made, using a manufactured book block, a cover made using a 3 section binding technique and UNIQUE hand decorated papers.
Why are they UNIQUE…. each cover is hand decorated and as you’ll see from the techniques I use, no pattern can ever be the same, quite often you don’t know how it will turn out till it’s dry:
- Marbling – floating paint on water, moving the paint to create a pattern, then laying on a piece of paper which takes up the design.
- Paste – covering paper with gloopy clear paste (can even be wall paper paste), then adding acrylic colour and making patterns.
- Momigami – covering paper with another gloopy paste and scrunching it up, over and over again until it becomes soft and amazingly strong, then I iron it. Sometimes I add colour.
These a very simplified explanations, however there are plenty of great YouTube videos around, one day I’ll do my own. None are rocket science, even a kid can do them. They can be messy so if you want to have a go, cover everything in sight beforehand!!
