Painted Stone – Islay beach scene

A smooth, rounded beach stone, hand-painted with a small Islay beach scene – pale sand, the layered blues and greens of the sea, and a wide sky with a gull or two. The natural shape of the stone becomes the curve of the shore.

The painting is the work of the artist Mairi Clark, and the piece comes from Islay Celtic Craft Shop in the Isle of Islay. Each stone is natural and painted by hand, so every one is different in shape and size, roughly 10 to 15 cm.

A lovely thing to set on a shelf or windowsill, and a one-off keepsake of an Islay beach.
