Ceri Biddle is a textile artist living and working in the Orkney Islands in the North of Scotland.
Ceri has always been fascinated by colour and pattern but all her work starts with a blank canvas of white fabric. She photographs and draws all around Orkney, Shetland and the North of Scotland. She then uses natural dyes to create her natural colour palette before cutting her own lino-prints to naturally print designs on the fabrics. These unique fabrics are then pieced together using traditional techniques of patchwork and applique and then enhanced through stitch and fabric painting. Each step builds layer upon layer of pattern and colour.
Once the pieces are complete, Ceri photographs her work and uses digital software to create a range of digital prints which can be used to make a range of modern products for the home.
Ceri's work focusses on highlighting the culture and natural beauty around us, encouraging people to talk and discuss what they see in the work. She loves to capture the essence of a place within her work. She has exhibited at the Scottish Quilt Festival in Glasgow, the Highland Show and the Festival of Quilts in Birmingham.
