A delicate Sterling Silver bracelet with a silver Cowrie shell or Grotie Buckie as its called in Orkney. It has a handmade clasp. Length is 19 cm but can be altered to suit. Please state when purchasing. Hallmarked in Edinburgh
Perfect gift for bridesmaids or that special person. Cast from a real shell found on a Stronsay beach. Oxidised to enhance the texture.
In Orkney, Cowries are called Grotie Buckies and are said to bring luck to the bearer. It’s a great sport trying to spot these tiny shells on the shoreline and sometimes it can get quite competitive to see who can collect the most.
There are two species of Cowries found in Orkney. Northern Cowrie, which has no markings and the slightly larger European Cowrie which has 3 spots on their back.
