Wilhelmina Woolyspinner
Product of: Shetland Islands
Digital art
Wilhelmina is a much loved woman amongst the village folk. Calm, wise and caring, she provides the village with some amazing warm clothing for the long winter days, cares for the sheep and works on designs for her new knits, giving the villagers a unique set of patterns and colours so that anyone would know at a glance where they came from. This comes in handy for the island games held every year in different locations where all competitors have to have their own ‘strip’ to take part. The games consist of chopping wood quickly, eating as much roast lamb as you can in an hour and throwing an axe at a target. Usually Axel Greatchopper, Wilhelmina’s husband, wins them all, but occasionally Thora Thunderthighs gives him a good run for his money. Wilhelmina is one of a cast of Viking characters of my own design, digitally painted, mounted in Ivory to fit any standard 7 x 9” frame.
