You can find a huge variety of sea creatures in the rockpools and on the beaches aross the island. Amongst the most colourful are the starfish that get washed up on the tide.
This suncatcher has the colours of the sea from the deep blue ocean through to the surf and some specially made granite glass as the shoreline. The starfish is picked out in colourful orange glass at the base.
The suncatcher is made from hand cut pieces of glass, assembled and fired in my kiln at home. The colours are made of individually cut squares of transparent glass. These have been placed on a clear glass base and fused at a lower temperature to maintain a textured yet glossy finish.
This sun catcher measures 15cm by 4cm and has a small wire loop embedded in the top. It comes with in a gift box with a loop of raffia to hang it where it can catch the light.

I started making fused glass as a hobby with a tiny kiln in the kitchen that was bought as a Christmas present. I fell in love with the process of designing and making glass, experimenting with lots of different ideas. After listing a few things on Etsy I finally invested in a bigger kiln and installed it in a shed at the end of the garden at our house in the Cotswolds.
Things have grown from there and after visiting the Isle of Harris many times over the years we finally took the plunge and bought a house here. My studio is in Cluer, a small village in the bays of Harris and I count my blessings that the picture is the view from my studio window!
I like to experiment with new designs and techniques, and love the excitement of opening the kiln each morning and seeing what transformation has taken place! When not in the workshop I can be found out running with my dog, Scout or coaching gymnastics.
