‘Swell’ silver necklace made in the Isle of Arran by Jess MacDonald Brass
Created by the energy from distant wind to the sea, a swell is a series of waves that start in the open ocean, travelling freely across the ocean like ripples on a loch.The longer and stronger the wind blows, the larger and more powerful a swell. As the swell meets the coast, the shallow water means the waves start to rear up and finally break ashore.
