Every piece in this collection tells a story of Scotland’s islands – from cowrie shells found on Orkney beaches to fossilised ferns on Mull’s ancient leaf beds. These aren’t mass-produced souvenirs. They’re handmade by island jewellers working in small studios overlooking the North Sea, the Atlantic, and the Sound of Jura.
The makers behind this collection live in Orkney, Shetland, Mull, Islay, and Colonsay. They cast shells they’ve collected from island beaches, create moulds from real fern leaves, and draw inspiration from the hares, sheep, and seabirds that share their landscapes. Most work in recycled sterling silver. All work with exceptional skill and care.
If you’re looking for a Christmas gift that carries genuine provenance and will be treasured for years, this is it.

These pure silver earrings are made from real fern leaves collected near the fossil leaf beds at Ardtun in Mull. Each pair is unique because each leaf is different. Handmade by Lynn at Drift Designs in her island studio.
We love these charming Shetland sheep studs inspired by the island’s famous Wool Week. These “yowes” (the Shetland word for ewes) are hand-cast in sterling silver. Made in Shetland by Yala Jewellery.

Hares in the mythical moongazing pose against a Celtic background. Made from recycled silver in the Isle of Mull, these earrings celebrate the island’s wildlife and heritage. By Drift Designs.
Tiny cowrie shells found hidden in the shingle on Islay beaches are sand-cast in solid sterling silver. Each shell measures approximately 8mm and captures the beautiful natural pattern. Handmade by CH Jewellery in their island workshop.

This gorgeous pendant contains a pebble from Colonsay, naturally smoothed and shaped by the sea, and set in recycled sterling silver. Each stone has real depth and character. Handmade and hallmarked by Hazel’s Sea Jewellery.
Thos pair of sterling silver earrings with sea blue and green vitreous enamel has been inspired by fossil finds on the Jurassic coast. Handmade and hallmarked in Edinburgh by Marion Miller in Stronsay, Orkney.

These pieces caught our attention because they’re genuinely made in the islands – not designed there and manufactured elsewhere, not “inspired by” Scotland from a factory in China.
The makers live in Orkney, Shetland, Mull, Islay, and Colonsay. They collect shells from their local beaches, cast real fern leaves, set pebbles they’ve found. Marion Miller works in her studio in Stronsay overlooking the North Sea. Lynn in Mull gathers ferns near the fossil beds at Ardtun. They’re using what’s around them.
All sterling silver, most recycled. Traditional techniques – sand casting, cloisonné enamel, hand-finishing. Properly hallmarked. The kind of jewellery that lasts decades.
