A black-and-white linocut of a corncrake hidden among long grass and yellow flag iris, hand-coloured by the artist.

A linocut print of a corncrake calling from the cover of long grass, with three yellow flag iris flowers reaching above. Printed in black on heavy 300gsm white paper, with the iris heads hand-coloured.

By Jane Taylor, an artist and print maker living in the Isle of Islay. Her linocuts draw on the wildlife, villages and distilleries of the island.

The cut is dense with grass and iris leaves, the bird almost lost in it – which is true to life, since you hear corncrakes long before you see them. Available as an A3 or A4 print.

A thoughtful gift for someone who knows the call, or who has tried in vain to spot one in an island machair.

From the Isle of Islay · Hand-coloured linocut print · 300gsm white paper · Image size 30cm x 20cm · A3 or A4
