Orcadian Wirds Wooden Heart
Product of: Orkney Islands
A wooden hanging heart printed with Orcadian dialect words and their meanings.
A wooden hanging heart printed with Orcadian words and their meanings, a small celebration of the Orkney dialect.
It is made by Claire Kirkpatrick Art in Orkney.
The heart is around 10cm wide and roughly 3mm thick, with a twine loop for hanging. The printing gathers dozens of dialect words, from peedie for small to groatie buckie for a cowrie shell, in cheerful coloured lettering.
It makes a warm gift for an Orcadian far from home, or for anyone who enjoys the words of the islands.

Claire Kirkpatrick Art
I have lived in the Orkney Islands almost all my life and I'm very passionate about my surroundings. I love nothing more than being indoors on a wild night listening to the wind howling outside or seeing the stunning Northern Lights from my back garden. The weather and environment are very much inspiration for all my work.
Living on an island you become multi-faceted and I believe my art styles reflect this, as I work in several different mediums. I have been producing the area hearts since 2015 and have covered over 1500 areas in Britain. Alongside this I love to paint and create collages, and when time allows, I love working with wood too.
I share a shop in the historic harbour town of Stromness, 'Lollie and Laine' with my friend Elaine and fellow artist Jeanne Bouza Rose. We opened in 2022 selling a range of handpicked gifts, art and homeware. I thoroughly enjoy meeting people visiting our islands from all over the world. When I am not working I have a busy home life with my 3 children, husband, cat and dog.
I hope you enjoy seeing my different styles of art work as much as I enjoy creating them x
