In this collection of verse in English, Donald Meek provides vignettes of his native Tiree from the early 1950s to the present day. Although he spent his professional life on the Scottish mainland, he has always maintained a very close connection with his family croft in Caolas. His ‘word-pictures’ include his early identity with the island, his schooling in Tiree and Oban, his work with horses and tractors, his regular travels on ships, planes and trains to and from the island, to his ambivalent relationship with the much less homogenous Tiree community of the twenty-first century.
